NEURO-STRUCTURAL
INTEGRATION TECHNIQUE (N.S.T)
NST (Neuro-Structural Integration Technique) is an innovative form of therapeutic bodywork based on the more advanced principles of the highly respected therapist Tom Bowen. The results of NST are often immediate and long-lasting, making this therapy stand out among all other body therapies. It does not try to force changes on the body like massage and chiropractic work. Instead, it restores the body to a previous state of wellness. It achieves significant relief in a relatively short time. Often the effects are immediate, though it is just as common for the changes to slowly unfold over a period of 7-10 days. Many people require only one to three treatments for long-term resolution of their condition. It is completely safe to use on everyone including newborn babies, the elderly, highly trained athletes, pregnant women, and anyone whose health could be improved. It is a highly effective treatment for sports injuries, accidents, surgery and many other kinds of trauma.
NST works by stimulating the body's own neuromuscular reflexes. The technique is applied in specific patterns to muscles, tendons, nerves and connective tissue. This releases muscular tension and signals the autonomic nervous system to reset the whole body at a lower tension level. This results in improved joint mobility, removal of toxins and an increase in cellular hydration. It allows nutrients to travel to areas that were blocked by tension and congestion so that they can be newly assimilated.
NST can be so powerful that a period of rest is often required after the treatment to allow the body to adapt to the changes that have taken place. Because the treatment induces a state of deep relaxation, rest comes naturally and some even fall asleep. There are some post-treatment recommendations that should be followed for the best possible results. Daily walking, adequate water intake, and mindful movement allow the treatment to take effect. Extremes of hot and cold, vigorous exercise, and other forms of bodywork (massage, chiropractic, and acupuncture) should be avoided soon after an NST treatment as they all have been found to halt the self-correcting mechanism.
NST works because the body is a self regulating bioenergetic and biomechanical phenomena which continues to regulate itself for as long as it has the reserve energy necessary to sustain life, by the ongoing process of biological adaptation. NST restores the appropriate neurological and neuromuscular conditions for the body to heal itself.
