MACROBIOTIC DIETARY THERAPY
The science of health and longevity through primarily changing the chemistry of the blood and consequently the chemical balance of the entire body, through the selection, preparation and combination of ordinary foods to redress the imbalances which lead to illness and dis-ease (mental & physical).
The underlying philosophy of macrobiotics is the ancient Chinese concept of Yin and Yang. They believed that the nature of everything in the universe, including food, could be interpreted through the dynamic tension between two complementary opposites, which they called ‘Yin’ and ‘Yang’.
When applied to food this would denote qualities such as warming/cooling, acidity/alkalinity, expansive/contractive, etc.. Likewise, various illnesses and physical conditions can be categorised as relatively Yin or Yang.
Optimum health is established and maintained when Yin and Yang are brought into balance. If you are out of balance, in other words sick, a macrobiotic counsellor will prescribe specific food combinations and external treatments to bring the body back into balance and will then recommend a diet to maintain health.
