SHIATSU (finger pressure)
|
SHIATSU - (finger pressure) is a form of bodywork which, at its highest level, combines a finely-tuned intuition with a thorough understanding of human structure and energy systems. SHIATSU was developed in Japan from a synthesis of Chinese massage called Anma and Oriental and Western techniques of physical manipulation. As a complete system of healing through touch it draws on key aspects of traditional oriental medicine.

Treatment is focussed along specific channels (‘meridians’) of subtle bodily energy called Ki (Chinese Chi). Ki is the life force which sustains every activity of the body, mind and spirit. The flow of Ki can be disturbed by an accident, a shock, a bereavement, dietary excess, poor posture or some other imbalance. The longer Ki is restricted, the more severe symptoms are.
|
Vitality is the basis of health, and reflects the strength and harmony of Ki circulation. SHIATSU tonifies and corrects the flow of Ki through finger pressure on specific points, stretching, holding and leaning body weight into various parts of the patient’s body. This results in the easing of aches, pains, fatigue and tension and improves energy flow, blood circulation, flexibility and posture. It is also effective in correcting internal organ malfunction and treating specific diseases.

Shiatsu is particularly useful at alleviating imbalances that result in, back ache, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, whiplash, migraines, arthritis, menstrual issues, sports injuries, post surgery trauma, depression, general tiredness, nervous system disorders, anorexia, asthma, bulimia and support of clients undergoing treatment for cancer.
However, you do not have to be unwell to benefit from Shiatsu. It can simply be a pleasant way to relax and unwind and a valuable means of sustaining the vitality necessary to meet the pressures and stress of modern living.
